What to notice in the examples

A strong window description distinguishes what is visible through the glass from what is reflected on it, tracks viewpoint angle, and uses changing daylight, weather, curtains, condensation, or exterior activity to alter information and atmosphere without treating the window as decorative filler.

  • Establish where the window sits in the room and what direction/view it offers.
  • Separate reflection from transmitted view, especially at night.
  • Track curtains/blinds/opening state when privacy or light matters.
  • Use weather, condensation, glare, shadow, and exterior movement as observable changes.
  • Do not assume glass blocks or transmits all sound equally.
  • Research specialist windows or historic glazing only when needed.

Use these fuller examples to see what changes between a recognizable pattern and a finished piece of writing. The examples are original or explicitly illustrative, so they demonstrate structure without inventing real-world evidence.

Worked example 1Night reflection

Describe looking outside after dark.

The lamp behind her appeared faintly in the glass, competing with the street view. Headlights crossed the lower pane while the rooftops remained visible above them. The narration distinguished reflection from the exterior scene.

Why it works: Track glass, light, and viewpoint angle.

Worked example 2Weather changes visibility

Use condensation without flattening the view.

Condensation blurred the lower pane while the upper glass stayed clear enough to show the sky. The uneven surface condition made the view partial rather than magically opaque.

Why it works: Use specific surface behavior.

Prompt → finished structure

See the decisions between the assignment and the final form

These transformations make the hidden planning step visible so the template does not become a fill-in-the-blanks substitute for judgment.

Transformation 1Looked out → actual view

Starting material: She looked out the window sadly.

Decisions
Describe angle, view, light, and relevant change.

Result: From the chair, the lower pane held passing headlights while the upper pane showed the last pale strip of sunset.

Transformation 2Night glass → accurate reflection

Starting material: At night she saw the street perfectly through bright indoor glass.

Decisions
Account for interior reflection.

Result: The lamp behind her reflected in the pane, so she moved closer to the glass to separate the street view from the room behind her.
