Book Back Cover Copy Template 1
Fiction frame: [protagonist] has [status quo] until [disruption]. To [goal], they must [action], but [opposition]. If they fail, [stakes].
Start with structure, then replace every placeholder with information that is true, relevant, and natural for your context. These templates are intentionally skeletal so your final writing does not sound mass-produced.
Effective back-cover copy completes the physical browsing decision: it gives the premise or reader benefit quickly, preserves legibility at print size, coordinates with surrounding cover elements, and avoids forcing every useful marketing detail into a space that must also function visually.
Fiction frame: [protagonist] has [status quo] until [disruption]. To [goal], they must [action], but [opposition]. If they fail, [stakes].
Nonfiction frame: If you struggle with [specific problem], this book shows [specific outcome] through [method/structure], including [2–3 concrete benefits].
Compression pass: premise → stakes/benefits → differentiator → closing promise; remove everything else.
Tone check: underline genre-signaling words and replace any that promise a different reading experience.
