Suspense Template 1
Outcome + uncertainty: If [event] happens, [consequence]. The character cannot know/control [uncertain factor].
Start with structure, then replace every placeholder with information that is true, relevant, and natural for your context. These templates are intentionally skeletal so your final writing does not sound mass-produced.
Strong suspense gives readers enough evidence to predict and worry, keeps more than one meaningful possibility alive, and delays resolution through causal obstacles or choices rather than arbitrary author withholding.
Outcome + uncertainty: If [event] happens, [consequence]. The character cannot know/control [uncertain factor].
Dramatic irony: The reader knows [danger/information], while [character] believes [different assumption].
Deadline: [Goal] must happen before [time/event], but [constraint] blocks the direct path.
Narrowing options: After [choice], [safe option] disappears, leaving [riskier alternatives].
