What to notice in the examples

A strong eyes description is specific enough to help the reader picture the person but restrained enough to remain physically and contextually credible. It separates stable features from momentary behavior, uses surrounding face and action when needed, and avoids claiming that eye contact or gaze direction proves an internal state.

  • Distinguish stable features such as color or shape from temporary actions such as blinking or looking away.
  • Describe where the gaze goes when direction matters to the scene.
  • Use light, distance, tears, lenses, makeup, fatigue, or environment only when the viewpoint could notice them.
  • Pair eye detail with surrounding facial or bodily action rather than making the eyes carry every emotion.
