Worldbuilding Prompts Template 1
Changed-condition prompt: In [place/society], [condition] is true. Constraint: [limit]. Build one household effect, one institutional effect, one beneficiary and one new conflict.
Start with structure, then replace every placeholder with information that is true, relevant, and natural for your context. These templates are intentionally skeletal so your final writing does not sound mass-produced.
Strong worldbuilding prompts introduce one consequential change or constraint, force at least one second-order effect, leave room for multiple original solutions, and lead toward story pressure rather than encyclopedic trivia. A prompt should generate choices, institutions, routines or conflicts the writer can actually use.
Changed-condition prompt: In [place/society], [condition] is true. Constraint: [limit]. Build one household effect, one institutional effect, one beneficiary and one new conflict.
Scarcity prompt: [Resource/service] is essential but scarce because [cause]. Who controls access, what workaround appears, and what choice does scarcity force?
Access prompt: [Capability/resource] exists, but only [group/condition] can use it. Show one status effect, one workaround and one challenge to the access rule.
Infrastructure prompt: [Routine] depends on [system]. Introduce [failure/bottleneck] and invent the backup, profession and political dispute that follow.
Law-history prompt: A law created after [past crisis] still governs [current behavior]. Invent who benefits now, who wants reform and what evidence each side uses.
Institution prompt: Create an institution that solves [problem] under [constraint]. Give it one useful function, one blind spot and one group that learns to game it.
Technology prompt: Introduce [technology] with [hard limit]. Trace its effects through work, family life, law, inequality and one legacy system that refuses to disappear.
Magic prompt: Introduce [magical capability] with [cost/uncertainty]. Build one ordinary use, one institutional use and one abuse the society tries to regulate.
Culture prompt: A shared practice exists because of [material/history condition]. Show how it differs by region/class/generation and how one character resists it.
Economy prompt: Change [transport/energy/labor/resource]. Identify the old bottleneck removed, the new bottleneck created, and who gains bargaining power.
Belief prompt: A public discovery challenges [widely held belief]. Invent three sincere interpretations and one institution changed by the disagreement.
Mobility prompt: Travel between [A] and [B] is easy physically but difficult because of [cost/law/status]. Invent the formal route, informal route and human consequence.
Information prompt: [Fact/record] is hard to verify. Invent who certifies it, how fraud works, what backup evidence exists and who cannot access verification.
Environment prompt: [Climate/geographic condition] changes one daily necessity. Build the architecture, schedule, labor and social meaning that follow.
Reform prompt: A reform solves [old injustice] but creates [new constraint]. Show one winner, one loser, one unintended workaround and one political argument.
Story-pressure prompt: Start with [world rule]. Ask: who wants something this rule blocks, what tactic do they try, and what world consequence makes the choice harder?
