Magic System Template 1
Core system card: capability [x] | access [x] | limit [x] | uncertainty [x] | cost/tradeoff [x] | story consequence [x].
Start with structure, then replace every placeholder with information that is true, relevant, and natural for your context. These templates are intentionally skeletal so your final writing does not sound mass-produced.
A strong magic system creates meaningful choices instead of convenient rescues. Readers understand the patterns they need, important limits are honored, exceptions are earned, costs matter at the moment of choice, and supernatural power changes institutions or everyday behavior when its scale makes that plausible. Soft or numinous magic can remain partly unexplained without becoming arbitrary.
