Character Motivation Template 1
Motivation core Character: [ ] Current goal: [ ] Underlying reason: [ ] Need/value/fear/duty: [ ] Why now?: [ ] Cost they will accept: [ ] Line they will not cross: [ ]
Start with structure, then replace every placeholder with information that is true, relevant, and natural for your context. These templates are intentionally skeletal so your final writing does not sound mass-produced.
Strong Character Motivation makes behavior legible without making every motive rational, admirable or fully conscious. The motive is specific enough to predict priorities under pressure, can conflict with other motives, and is proved by costly choices rather than by explanatory backstory alone.
